Touche
For whatever reason, I was unable to upload any images to Blogger last night or this morning. Right now, 10pm, is the first chance I've had to try again since this morning. The mixed media image above is called "Boogie Session" and is inspired by the 1970s television series, What's Happening!!, as well as Cooley High, the film that preceded it.
Anyway, the weekend went well. The surprise birthday party for Brandon that several of us had planned ended up backfiring when Brandon came home to his apartment an hour early. Fortunately, the only people there were Paige, Brent and myself. It was pretty obvious what was going on, what with all the food and music. Since we weren't expecting any guests for another fifteen minutes, I came up with the idea of hiding Brandon in his bedroom. I insisted that "somebody is going to be surprised tonight. Even if it's not the guest of honor."
As guests began to arrive, Brandon sat in his bathroom, with the door locked, drinking from a can of Hamm's. The plan was that we were going to all stand in the living room, facing the front door, with our backs conveniently to Brandon's bedroom. The new plan, however, was that instead of Brandon walking in through his front door to the surpise of several of his closest friends waiting for him, he would come out of his bedroom to the shock of those very people.
I told Brandon I would turn on his current favorite song--"Slick As Snails" by Robert Pollard, and that would be his cue to enter.
He did.
And the people were surprised.
And then we bumped Wu Tang all night.

That's hilarious.
(BTW, what does "bumped Wu Tang" mean?)
Frasier
No, seriously.

I asked the same question of Brandon last night. What the hell is "bumped Wu Tang?" My first thought was, "No, it wasn't that type of party. REALLY it wasn't!" At least I don't think it was. I did pass out rather early and Mark did fetch me a beer or two. Huh...I did wake up Sunday afternoon naked covered in pizza rolls. Wait a second...what the hell happened Saturday night?
Seeing as how I had no access to the journal today, I was hoping that my trusty sidekick, Brandon, would come to my rescue by clearing up the confusion. Thanks, Brandon.
In a nutshell, Wu-Tang Clan is an American hip hop group from Staten Island, New York City. The group was originally composed of nine MCs until the death of Ol' Dirty Bastard in 2004. In 1993 the group released its debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Since then, all nine members have released solo albums, and the group has spawned many affiliate artists. This was leader RZA's plan from the beginning: to become an empire in the rap industry by saturation of affiliated artists. Though their style has evolved considerably over the years, the group is fundamentally known for The RZA's pioneering, gritty sample-based production and unique emceeing distinguished by heavy use of local slang and Five Percenter terminology, themes of inner-city life, and references to Hong Kong action cinema and Samurai films.
Actually, we really didn't "bump Wu Tang all night." We started off by rotating through Brandon's top five favorite bands of all time (The Jesus & Mary Chain, Pavement, Pixies, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives and Guided By Voices). Once the alcohol had been flowing for a few hours is when we turned to the Wu Tang. We did, however, force feed Paige a steady diet of pizza rolls and Hamms.
hey! i like this silly illustration extension.
on a completely different note, I saw that you posted once on a bulletin board about printing onto paper "digipak" cd jewel cases and had a positive experience. could we talk about this? what did you use? where did you get 'em?
