Hourly Comic Day, 2010

It's been a good three months since I've visited this blog. No regrets, really. With my weekly comics and my busy schedule, I have no time to express written thoughts. That said, it's still nice to have this forum for projects such as this.

"Hourly Comic Day" is one-time-a-year event. It's literally that--a comic for each hour you're awake. Since I basically draw longer-form comic strips, I chose to approach the experiment in the same way. There are some things I'll do differently next year but, for now, here's what I worked on for HCD'10.

Shipping Today

The fine people at Prepress Graphics told me that I was wasting my time cutting my own books. In the past, I had them print them off and then leave the cutting, stitching and folding to yours truly. After this last go-around (The Colorblind Art Teacher #2, which can be ordered right here) I decided that I was sick and tired of having to line up the copy myself, cut, and take the chance of not being delicate or precise enough. After lamenting this to Stephanie, she assured me that, not only are their people as precise as you can get (unlike your Office Maxs and Depots where the college student getting paid $6 an hour could care less about precision), but it wasn't really that much more to have this done. I agreed, along with the intention of binding and folding by myself. It's this process that makes the work feel 100% finished. And only then, can I rest.

Today, after a class period spent stacking pages, binding, folding and cleverly devising a way in which to attach the free three-song hip hop sampler (the students love to watch this process), I was able to pack, address and ship the first batch. If you placed an order already, it should arrive by the weekend. Enjoy.

And, oh yes, please feel free to order something from me if you haven't already.

More Whatnot

As many of you realize, I'm currently in the process of getting my comic book career off the ground. This is evident through my new weekly comic site, mwteel.com. Please continue to check there every Monday, for the rest of your life, in order to see a glimpse of scenes from my past 36 years.

I don't want to give up this specific blog. There's really no reason to. I always figured that, once I had my weekly strip up and running, I would continue to maintain this. However, it's been about six weeks since I've so much as looked at it.  There's too much at stake to just shut it down completely. I have three years worth of thoughts archived here and, as much as I could just leave it alone from now on, there's really no point in leaving it active if I'm not going to update it.

So here's what's going on right now: The Colorblind Art Teacher #3 is at the printer, as I write this. Stephanie promised me if would be ready by week's end. So those of you who have an order pending, it will be arriving soon. Along with your three-song sampler CD. Several of you, who have orders waiting, have also ordered the first two issues so, naturally, I'm waiting to send them all together.

There's still some available so please visit my store to order a copy. Printin' ain't cheap, so help support this starving artist and his family.

New School Year And Whatnot

So this is the first official full school week for USD 500. I've been busy lately, attending boring meetings and filling out even more boring worksheets.

If you're here to see this week's Colorblind Art Teacher strip, it can be found at mwteel.com. The site is still a work in progress, as I intend on adding more to it. But I wanted to get it up and running for now so that I have a home for the strip. From now on, this is where my weekly webisodes will be posted. As for the status of this particular blog, I intend on keeping it afloat. Of course, I'll have to go back to doing real writing, instead of posting a weekly strip.
